Painting has always been an important part of my life. As a child, I spent countless hours drawing and painting, entering art contests, and experimenting with different mediums. During the 1990’s I began painting with American Realist Linden Frederick, and over the course of several years, developed a technique and style of my own which I continue with today. I approach my painting with an acute visual observation, and develop a small study. Often the study is expanded upon in a larger version. I work exclusively in oil using a limited palette, applying the paint in thin layers to achieve subtle changes of surface and light. Light, and how it affects a surface, plays a significant role in my painting. It is through my paintings, I am best able to express my interest and appreciation of our natural environment. Every season; every location brings with it different light, temperature, colors, and textures. Capturing those elements in time and space is the challenge I enjoy most when choosing any subject to paint.
