Summer shows will be bi-weekly again, alternating between Shows on Maine Art Hill at 5 Chase Hill Road and The Gallery at the Grand at 1 Chase Hill Road. Each show runs for about four weeks, with opening receptions with the artists each Saturday a show begins. These receptions are free to the public and open to anyone; no tickets are required.
By January is Corey’s Artist Choice piece for the Choice Art Show at Maine Art Shows in Kennebunk. It is one of three pieces of his work in the show. “This painting represents me and my work to the best of my current ability. Everything I have went into it,” says Corey. “The Belted Gateways are one of my favorite subjects when I’m looking for a challenge. For such big animals they don’t seem to stop moving. This makes it tough when trying to paint them.”
Between spring and St. Patty’s we love this time of year at Maine Art. The streets outside our windows have just a few more people wandering, shops that have been closed and dark since January are beginning to open their windows and air out the winter dust, and on those lovely days when the thermometer rises above 60 degrees, we begin to smell the beginning of the season. Of course our pot of gold looks more like Daniel Corey’s sunflowers in Of the Sun and our Shamrocks are made of copper by Lyman Witaker and spin all year long, but still we celebrate right along with the rest of you.
We are lucky enough to live in one of the most beautiful places in Maine. The Kennebunks have been sited in numerous journals and websites for many “top tens” of Maine, New England, and even the Untied States. We are known for our quaint, coastal village feel, and we are just that, a coastal village. With that comes one of our favorite characteristics of the coast, the place that doesn’t close for the winter, the place that everyone is welcome, the place that reminds of daily of how truly amazing and beautiful our home is.
