There are Two Sides to Every Story – Claire Bigbee and Ingunn Joergensen

“Both Joergensen and Bigbee joined the gallery at the same time. They live locally and share a common love of Maine,” says gallery owner John Spain. “Over time, not only have they grown as artists, they have grown into friends. It is not uncommon for Bigbee and Joergensen to travel to remote locations for an artist retreat. They often share ideas and inspiration as they paint side by side, seeing the same landscape, each painting their vision.”

If You Just Can’t Wait….Joergensen and Bigbee

The beauty of the Maine landscape, the constantly changing elements, and the ocean are a never-ending source of inspiration for all of Joergensen’s art and design work. “It is the little things that catch my attention, a piece, a fragment, a texture, a thought, a word. Sometimes taking it all in is so much, it is almost overwhelming,” Igunn shares. “One little shell tells the story of the ocean. A piece of wood tells the story of lived life. Beauty is found in the most unexpected places.”

Ingunn Milla Joergensen – The Choice Show 2021

“All my work in this year’s show is of landscapes. Wide and open ones. They vary from dawn to dusk, rivers, marsh, and ocean,” explains artist Ingunn Milla Joergensen. “I spend a lot of time in these various places. It is where I can breathe, reflect, and find peace. This last year these aspects are more important than ever, to recharge and find beauty in nature. “

I work in layers, adding paint, scraping off, often mixing the colors directly on the canvas. Being extremely tactile, I often paint with my bare hands. I find that I simplify more and more. There are so much clutter and noise surrounding us – by paring down to the bare essentials, I can breathe.

Summer Shows 2020 – Janis Sanders, Ingunn Milla Joergensen, and Jill Matthews

Natalie Lane, Director of Galleries and General Manager of Maine Art Hill, says, “The early August opening of the Matthews, Sanders, and Joergensen show, is one I have been looking forward to all summer. The contrasting landscapes and seascapes compositions and color palettes range from bold to ethereal. They take us all on a journey of the senses through New England, and it’s seacoast with all its incarnations.”
