I’ve always admired artists that boldly use color. It takes confidence to view color as a choice. Light and shadow inspire countless possibilities and color arrangements, and it is with those choices between the lines that an artist proves their sense of certainty.

Pop-Up with Robin Swennes & Phil Ouellette
“Creation is personal. Going public is terrifying. Allowing others to see the “cool” of the creation and desire a piece must be euphoric, unforgettable, but, again, terrifying. I lean towards rust, debris, and the unwanted, and when they all collaborate, the outcome is a piece that stands on its own.”

Adrienne Kernan LaVallee – A Spring Pop-Up on Maine Art Hill
As a painter, I use oil paint almost exclusively. I loved it at age three when I got into my father’s paints and saw the hardwood floor and my body as perfect vehicles for expression. If I close my eyes, I still hear my mother’s scream. That introduction has stayed with me. Today I love pushing and pulling oil paint around my canvas. Expressive, abstract explorations of the landscape excite me, particularly that of New England and Maine’s coast.
Barn and Mill Gallery – A Spring Pop-Up on Maine Art Hill
My process begins with “wood hunting”: I seek the unusual and the imperfect. Often rejected by large-scale wood processors, these characteristics show how art can be produced within an organic, natural environment. I view myself as a custodian of this natural art. I focus on creating designs that bring this natural art into people’s homes.
