Blissful Awakenings – Claire Bigbee, Artist Choice

A painting, for Claire, is an expression of those moments when struck by a view. It is her attempt to keep that white heat moment of excitement.  The middle tones in this painting have a darkness, the colors are muted, but there is a harmonious glowing quality, like a thin veil over everything.

Another Crossing – Craig Mooney, Artist Choice

Craig Mooney has been a part of Maine Art for over ten years. Over the course of this time, many have fallen in love with his dreamy skies and landscapes that pull us into a world full of memories and wishes.  Yet recently, we have realized some of his best work lies beyond his horizons and in his figurative pieces.

6th Annual Choice Art Show – Liz Hoag and the Trees

“Stand of Trees is a view from a country road. I don’t even know what town I was in,” Hoag laughs. “The beautiful snowy field was visible through the trees lining the road, and I remember being out on an adventure with my family on a sunny winter day.” A common occurrence for Hoag. “I love the simplicity of the idea that we can find calm and beauty right along the road almost anywhere in Maine.”

6th Annual Choice Art Show – “Peace on Earth” by Susan Wahlrab

“My new favorite place is Schoodic Point, a part of Acadia National Park. A dear friend of mine let me know that if I am there at dead low tide, there is an island just off the coast I can walk to and explore,” Susan explains. Many of her new pieces come from, what she describes as, one amazingly magical morning.

Witbeck says, “I’ve been painting my signature fishermen for eleven years. They’ve become my identity as an artist, but it’s… Read more »

6th Annual Choice Art Show – “Dining Alfresco” by William B. Hoyt

Hoyt is a lover of all things Maine, especially the sailboats, and often his imagination and attention are caught by the simple things Maine has to offer. “The setting sun bathed us in light when it dropped below the eaves of the porch. The water sparkled and danced with it,” says Hoyt. “I have to pinch myself when a scene like this unfolds before me. It’s practically sensory overload.”

6th Annual Choice Art Show – “Marsh Sky IV” by Margaret Gerding

The locals and the tourists alike recognize these marshes and have fallen in love with them as Gerding has. “I have always been drawn to this area where the meandering waterways change with the tides, the long grass shows its golden colors, and the protective stance of distance trees is forever present.”
