In 1980 the Art Guild of the Kennebunks (AGK) was founded to foster camaraderie, support, and professional stimulation. Beginning as a loosely knit organization, the Guild developed into a formal corporate structure with non-profit status. In addition, AGK grants scholarships to deserving students in the visual arts from Kennebunk High School.

Members were and continue to be juried into the organization from the inception based on professional artistic criteria. As a result, approximately 60 juried artist members represent various visual arts mediums, including painting, photography, printmaking, sculpting, textile art, and mixed media.
