The Art of Giving Old Things New Life
As much as the staff loves to see Floral Spigots come through the door with Patrick, it is very difficult not to fall in love with the new Diving Ducks. The colorful croquet balls that center each of his birds adds a sense of whimsy that is hard to deny. These birds were created this fall for the holiday season.
The Sculpture
When someone asks of art in Maine the mind goes to seascapes and fishing boats, Classic Maine scenes captured in acrylic or watercolor hung on walls in memory of a time and place lest we forget the beauty. Yet when walking into Maine Art Paintings and Sculpture, one quickly realizes it is more than just one dimensional. Here, among the canvases, is sculpture.
Patrick Plourde in BIRD – A Maine Art Show
Patrick Plourde studied art at the Maine College of Art and received his Masters of Fine Art from Washington University. For over twenty-five years, he has used vintage steel and found objects to express natural forms: various plants, flowers, seeds, and birds.
Everybody Likes Birds, by Ric Kasini Kadour
All of these artists have in common a love of birds. Their keen observations of them help give their paintings and sculpture a veracity that ultimately allows us share in their affections. Everyone likes birds, indeed.
