Kennebunk, ME, February 23, 2018 – After 20 years in business in the Kennebunks, Maine Art Paintings & Sculpture is opening a collection of seven micro galleries on Chase Hill Road representing high-quality artists and artisans. Launching in May, the custom framing and print shop will occupy one of the studios, while five spaces are reserved for annual renters and one for rotating weekly pop-ups.

Susan Wahlrab’s Journey Through Nature
“Experience has led me to a whole new chapter. This lifetime of infusing with the natural world created a big “Ah Ha” moment. All of nature is represented in a flower,” shares Wahlrab, still amazed by the realization. “There is abundant literature, folklore, and symbolism related to flowers. Most have their own connection and stories with these amazing creations. Even those living in a concrete space, in a high-rise, in a busy city, find a way to bring flowers into their lives.”
Breaking News Breaking Ground
Maine Art Hill will be a collection of seven small micro-galleries. Each will have coastal cottage charm and feel that will become a home to area artists and skilled artisans, while keeping the house for ourselves, as the new home for Maine Art Custom Framing and Prints. There will be a small sculpture garden with benches and walkways throughout the property making this little space a lovely place to visit and shop.

Which Lyman Whitaker Wind Sculpture Will Win?
Once all of the photos were in, we chose twelve finalists’ photos from the hundreds that were submitted. These twelve will be made into a calendar for the finalists. All that is left now is for you to choose the winner.
An Autumn Afternoon of Art
We are celebrating the fall colors, the cool air and the addition of two new artists to the gallery. Both are excited to join our family, and we want to give them a proper Kennebunk Welcome. There is nothing like hot apple cider and fall bites to make a Maine gathering complete. We are also thrilled to have live music from local guitarist Beau Dalleo. John LeCours – An New Artist at Maine Art
LeCours, who works mostly in oils, takes inspiration from the natural beauty of his native New England. “The first time I painted outside, en plein air, in Portsmouth Harbor, I realized that nothing can replace the excitement and energy of reacting to the elements and painting directly,” he says. “Feeling the sights, sounds and smells and reacting to them with ‘mark making’ was a true epiphany.”
Witbeck and his Women – Artist Insights on Nudes
Witbeck has been working on figure drawing almost every week for several years. The drawings and sketches, however, piled up in his studio, unseen by anyone but him. Then one day, that changed. “I thought it would be fun to turn some of them into paintings. An artist should paint what he loves,” grins Witbeck. “ ‘Nough said.”
Painting Maine – Thoughts from David Witbeck
Even though David Witbeck now lives in Rhode Island, Maine still holds a large portion of his heart and his work. He has so many memories he has created here and visits as often as he can. “Last October I spent a couple weeks recharging my Maine batteries and explored,” says Witbeck. “I wandered amongst the pole wharves of Friendship and Stonington, and visited many bays and harbors along the coast.”
